FAQ

  • What is Clinical Psychology? Is Clinical Psychology for me?

Clinical Psychologists hold doctoral degrees meaning they have extensive training in assessing mental health and using a variety of therapeutic interventions. This contrasts to other therapists (e.g. Cognitive Behavioural Therapists) who tend to have training in a specific intervention(s) and are not required to undertake a doctorate. The main thing is that you trust your therapist, regardless of ‘professional title’.

  • Clincial Psychology or Clinical Sport Psychology?

A Clinical Sport Psychologist is just a Clinical Psychologist working in sport. We can discuss your goals for therapy and determine whether sport-specific factors form a part of your current difficulties and should be a key consideration in our sessions. This can be a working process and we will regularly review your therapy to check that sessions are focussed on your needs.

  • Who can benefit from therapy? Is it for everyone?

Clinical psychology is for individuals of all ages dealing with mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship problems. It's also valuable for those seeking personal growth and self-improvement.

Therapy can also be useful for athletes who notice that some of the traits that help their sporting performance also cause problems in daily living.

  • How can I schedule an initial appointment with you?

Visit the ‘contact’ tab on our site or click ‘get started’ on the header of our website. You can then fill in a form summarising your current difficulties.

We will then be in touch to arrange a free initial consultation to discuss your needs and whether this is something we may be able to help with.

  • What is the purpose of the free 20 minute initial consultation?

  • I'm nervous about therapy and unsure if I'l be able to open up.

That’s totally normal. It isn’t easy opening up, especially if your discussing things that you have kept buried. Many clients have shared their difficulties with me over the years and I like to think I help them to feel comfortable. Just like any relationship, it can take time to develop so don’t feel pressured to share everything at once. Take it at your own pace!
